As your experience shows, many independent travellers unfortunately never make it north of Sapporo because of the sparse train system. I live out in one of those sparse areas, and it&#039;s definitely worth a look if you are into good food and unique landscapes. Eastern Hokkaido in particular is a spectacular area, but nearly impossible to see efficiently without wheels.]]></description>
