Official Best Day of the Year (so far)
March 5th, 2010

Boater hat: Antique mall
Weird 80′s blouse, belt, shoes: thrifted
Pants: Value Village in Victoria
Purse: I forget! A vintage shop?
Guys, yesterday was so cool. I had such a great day from start to finish! I got my shop update done nice and early, and then the amazing mail started showing up at my door. First, my fancy sunscreen and Evan Healy face stuff, then my LOMO LC-A+ CAMERA!!!!!, then a super sweet surprise package from a lovely lady who buys things from my shop. Her name’s Joanna and she sent me the most awesome stuff, but I’m going to show you that later. Then, we went out for veggie po’boy sandwiches at that awesome cart on Hawthorne and 40-something, I went thrifting and found my dream 30′s dress for only $8- it has some little holes in the back and I think maybe the sleeves were cut off, but I’m going to fix it up and I’m actually kind of glad that it is a little messed up, because then I won’t feel bad for hemming it!! It’s that awkward past-the-knees length that looks weird on me. Ok, what else- I picked up some great dresses for the shop, and then I finally found an old dress form that has my measurements!!! YAY! Now my attempts at fake sewing will be easier, because it’s way easier to lay fabric out on a body than it is on the floor. Honestly, when I found the dress form I started to question whether or not the day was actually happening… it was a little too much like dreams that I have, where I’m thrifting amazing stuff left & right, only to end up disappointed when I wake up, haha. Had a fun little video chat with my bestie Rachel too! I finished off the day with a yoga class at the gym followed by some awesome soaking in the hot tub, swimmin’ in the pool (all salt water!) and sauna-ing until I could sauna no more. What a great day.

Let me tell you about this hat. I bought it at the antique mall last summer, but felt like it looked stupid on me, so I put it in my shop and sold it to a girl. BUT, she never paid! So I kept it around for months and months, and when I put it on yesterday I actually liked how it looked! It must have something to do with my hair being longer…

Spring is still in full swing. I think this sort of weather happened in April last year, it’s so early! It has me getting really antsy for morel mushroom season… I will absolutely die if I miss out on my chance to get some. I’m not kidding. I am obsessed with morels. I check websites where people report sightings of them and am preparing to freak out as soon as I see a post from Portland. If you’ve never had a fresh morel, make sure you do at some point in your life because they are the most incredible thing that comes from the earth.

Funny shirt, right? Definitely one of those things where was asking myself, “Dumb or awesome?” at the thrift store when I had it in my hands. Conclusion = awesome.

Happy Friday every buddy!

Whoa… so many things. First, this outfit is killin’ it. Seriously. I love it when I find things at the thrift store that I can’t tell if they’re really awesome or really awful. This blouse is a score. Two, what a beautiful day! I can’t believe you have cherry blossoms. We still have snow. Three, send some of that thrifting luck this way! I love those days. I haven’t had one in a while. I swear, having a dress form is going to change your life! Are you going to use it for shop photos?

What a darling outfit!! Love the hat!
4. Rhiannon | March 5th, 2010 at 11:10 am
How on earth did you get pants that good at a thrift store! And ’30s dresses? What a wonderful outfit . . . and the hat looks great on you, so I don’t know what you were thinking!

I’m glad to hear you had a great day and your photos are gorgeous! I love your blouse and the ruffled ties. I would also LOVE a dress form… having to adjust a muslin on myself is the thing I hate most about sewing and probably why I don’t do much of it. When I was in high school, I made a duct tape dummy of myself. It involved having my Mom wrap me in several rolls of duct tape. The resulting dress form had my exact measurements, but also a creepy “Silence of the Lambs” quality. I’d much rather get a vintage form instead!

Oh.my.god. No Way! That green dress was mine! Well, mine as in I found it at the goodwill bins last year, and despite the damage couldn’t leave it there. It sat in my basement for months and months, until one day I cleaned out my Etsy room and the dress went to my friend Twila Jean. She kept it for a while, but then sold it to The Red Light when she moved, and now it’s yours! I’m so glad it ended up with you, can’t wait to see how you style it!
xoxo
