Snow City

February 9th, 2010

It was so spring like today, I actually saw daffodils blooming and went out without a jacket. I can’t believe it. Don’t worry though, this is just the Northwest’s fake spring that happens for a few days before turning back into winter. I know that it is still way more mellow than the winter that a lot of you are having right now- another snowstorm for the eastern lands? So wild. We live in a very big place. A few weeks ago I received almost two thousand old photos from Germany in the mail and I’ve been slowly scanning some (my favorites) to share online. The other day I scanned all the cold weather/winter themed ones that I put aside, so if you like the snow that you’re getting right now, these will encourage you enjoy it even more! And, if you aren’t excited to see more snow, maybe they’ll help you see some good in the storms? They illustrate a lot of the good things about winter- great coats, quiet and incredibly beautiful mountains, cold and crisp air, and the chance to really feel like you want to get cozy.

I have to be honest though, as much as I like these old photos I am still not a fan of snow! That’s one of the reasons that I like living here- only one day with ANY snow this winter (so far).

aww we have a mini spring sometimes here too! It always fools you. All the birds are singing and you think you’ve escaped the cold and then BLAM it starts snowing (like today)
What lovely photos though! I love the one with the two ladies in black standing in front a fake painted background. Xx

I always love old photos… always.
They made me feel warm and calm somehow. Sadly we don’t have snow here, really, summer is never end for us who live in the tropical land… But these photos are really great (and tempting!! LOL). Really enjoy them!

I always love these vintage photo posts you do! And yes, the snow is cah-razy here right now. We got another 14 inches on top of the 26 we already had… and it’s still coming down! That’s 40 inches yo! (In case you weren’t doing the math). Your little taste of spring, however brief it may be, sounds wonderful.

These photos are great. We’ve been having an elongated fall here in Taipei. Last winter it was freezing this time of year and now it’s so warm I can go out in t-shirts. It’s nice, but I wonder what it says about global warming…
By the way, 2,000 photos!?! That must have been one awesome package!

These are great! I have a weird relationship with winter: I love the clothes and the idea of it, but hate actually living through it. ;) My husband has been lamenting that we moved from DC and are missing all the snow in FL. I, on the other hand, am perfectly happy to be living in a mild climate! haha!

Very cute. I love the one with the couple looking at each other, the lady in her beautiful trench! At least Portland had that big snow storm last year! That was fun, and I was hoping for that again this year. The one day it snowed I had driven my tiny car downtown and was sliding around. yuck.

Great photos! Out of curiosity, do any of these photos say anything about the Zugspitze (or Alpspitze) or Garmisch-Partenkirchen (or Grainau!) on the back?
Just wondering since I used to live in the German alps, and I’m wondering if any of these photos are from different angles than I’m used to seeing the mountains!
