February Days

February 6th, 2010

Thank you for all your nice comments about my new photos! It feel so good to actually want to take digital photos again, I was so uninspired by our point and shoot and the new camera is such a treat. Speaking of treats, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my shop was the 2nd place winner for jury’s choice (best vintage shop) on Poppytalk. Guys! Thanks! It means a lot, it totally made my day. I’ve been holdin’ down the fort by myself over here since dalas went to San Francisco for some vimeo computer nerd thing, but the days have been sunny and I’ve been occupied with my new camera, coffee, tea with Alice, working on a top-secret project (not anything blog or fashion related, but I will tell you about it in a day or so), dancing hard to soul music, and enjoying tasty food like the new brunch at Blossoming Lotus. The weather is almost spring-like here, I actually saw crocuses blooming on my walk to get coffee yesterday. Unreal.

Last night I met up with my friend Jillian to go dancing at the Goodfoot, which was simultaneously really fun and totally gross. Jillian and I have a cool time together and I think we can power through any weirdness- an important aspect of last night. We were hit on more times than I have ever been hit on in my life. It was horrifying, ha ha. It seems like maybe there were just too many dudes there and not enough girls, because those guys were outta control. Some guy came up by us while we were dancing and took our picture (??? the joke will be on him, I am not very candidly-photogenic), then started acting way too familiar towards our friend… we also heard a guy say, “Are any of you ladies with any of these guys?” Ha, he should have just said “I’ll take any of them, I don’t even care.” Nothin’ like a bit of desperation in your night, right guys? Some other dude kept creeping by our dance party (we made a cool spot for ourselves in the mirrored “safety corner”) and when I tried to shut him out he made a big deal out of it, saying things like, “Oh, you’re the SHY one right?” and I said, “NO. I don’t want to talk to you,” then he left. Ha! I mean, first of all, ew, second of all, I’m married, and third- EW! I am not interested in having any kind of back-and-forth with some random frosted-tip hair guy, so I don’t even try to be cordial or whatever- after all, it’s a sweaty basement disco-ball lit dance floor, I have better things to do like ignore everyone but my friends and DANCE! But despite all that, it was still really fun to dance it out on a Friday night with one of my favorite people.

Once I got home I stayed up pretty late messing around on the computer and enjoying the finished product of my afternoon of secret project work, so I’m a little tired today (gonna go thrifting in a bit though!). I did enjoy that amazing french toast up there from Blossoming Lotus with Ariel, she ordered some delicious savory home fries with maple-glazed tempeh, some kind of cool sauces and kale. My french toast was spelt bread with fruit, candied hazelnuts (best nut) and delicious cashew cream sauce. A brunch success! I’m really excited to have a new veggie brunch spot in town, everything on the menu looks awesome (except the tofu scrambles, I’m sort of over those in general) so I hope to be back soon.

Tomorrow is the SUPERBOWL! Haha. I really enjoy dorky classic American things like the Superbowl, we’re going to buy junk food and drink beers all day, followed by SuperBOWLING, an annual tradition. My only wish is that Tom Petty could be the halftime performer every year! The best part about tomorrow is that my friend Laura is coming to visit for a couple days from Vancouver before heading off on a vacation to warmer lands- lucky!! She hasn’t been to Portland in a couple years so I’m excited for her to see our house, chickens, etc. She’s also a genius for escaping Vancouver just in time for the Olympics to start, it sounds like things are getting crazy up there already.

Ok, time to get on with my day. Have a cool weekend everybody!

I can’t get over how good those photos look! I love the pale, faded colors of them . . . just lovely.

Also aren’t dance clubs weirdly fun? The dancing part, at least!

These photos are beautiful, Anja!!! Are you using a filter on them of some sort? I feel like such a dork with my DSLR; I’m still trying to figure it all out. ;)

Aw gosh… what is it with guys lately? I’ve had some seriously weird crap go on when I’m out–and it’s not like it’s hard to figure out I’m married and “off the market”. Must be the time of year. lol. I think the weirdest/most annoying was the guy on the motorcycle last week who kept trying to talk to me and get my number while we were driving down the road (the pitfall of living in FL and constantly having the car windows down…). Like what the heck?! :p

I’m in love with these photos! So, so good!

Haha, your night out dancing sounds hilarious. ‘Frosted-tip hair guys’ killed me! I love that one thought by calling you the SHY one was going to make you all swoon into his arms. EW!

WOW! I add my praises to your gorgeous bunch of photos–love that gray kitty–so solemn and elegant!
and EW! to those lecherous dance-men. yuck yuck yuck. i hate that stuff: “HEY LADIES–YOU’RE HERE AND UNACCOMPANIED BY MALES, SO YOU MUST TOTALLY WANT ME!!!!!” yucky.
and yum to brunch–definitely the best meal.
    xoxo,
    Gina
