Plaid, Plaid, Plaid

December 22nd, 2009

Here’s the next set of scans from the December issue of Fudge Magazine. This editorial features Fred Perry clothing, lots of cute plaid! The model reminds me a bit of Aya/Strawberry Koi! Once again, Fudge has mastered the art of setting up cute little scenes outdoors. I love how often they use the indoor stuff out in nature. This editorial is showing up in my life at the perfect time, since I had the great fortune of thrifting a beautiful plaid trench coat yesterday at the Goodwill.

I really like the combination of plaid with fancier items, like those giant pearls or the feathery cameo hat. There’s something really classic about that pairing, and these two outfits are my favorite from this editorial. Those fuzzy gloves are kind of adorable too! Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the bottom photo is totally happening during the golden hour!

I also wanted to mention that I’m not scanning every single photo from every editorial, just the ones that I really like! I left out one from this, and one or two from the previous set… I encourage all of you to seek it out for yourselves, too! I have a subscription through Kinokuniya, the bookstore at Uwajimaya. This is a chain so you might find one near you! My store only orders in one copy for the shelf and there are never any in stock, so you should ask if they offer subscriptions, or if they can order more copies. The magazine is pretty cheap compared to some, only about $8 per issue and I think you get a bit of a deal if you subscribe. It took three months for my subscription to start, so don’t expect to get it right away! The only thing that is sort of annoying is that they don’t ship the magazine to your house, you have to pick it up in-store. So, keep that in mind if your Kinokuniya is really far away from your house. Also, check for any other Japanese/Asian bookstores in your city and you might have some luck!

So, this editorial really reinforced my love for plaid and gave me a cool excuse to show some of the plaid photos I’ve been saving from tumblr and other internet locations. Some favorites:

The street style photo is from Style Sightings, and I think the other two are from tumblr so their origin is a bit of a mystery. If you know, let me know!

As I mentioned above, I thrifted a really awesome plaid trench coat yesterday. It’s not vintage, it’s some random brand but the quality is nice and the colors are so perfect, fitting right into my love for dark/navy and neutrals. I’m also coming to terms with admitting my love for Alexa Chung’s style, I was in denial for a while because part of me wanted to dislike her (she looks a tiny bit like a girl from elementary school that I didn’t like, so it caused some kind of mental block!) but I just can’t- her style is so cute, not to mention her adorable raspy British voice! This coat looks like something she might wear, and if I can find a moment when it isn’t raining (the clouds are moving in fast right now), I’ll take some outfit photos with it! I also thrifted another perfect striped top, but I’ll save that for another post.

I just can’t get enough of these neutral plaids, they are so perfect for dreary winter weather. Turns out I have one almost just like Alexa’s, a soft flannel dress that I originally intended to sell but had to keep once I put it on! I can’t say no to something that comfortable that is also cute. The photo of Audrey Hepburn is from the amazing My Vintage Vogue flickr photostream, the photo of Alexa is from her thread on the Fashion Spot, and I’m not sure where the editorial photo is from, I think it’s another tumblr find. Oh, and the one of me is of course from my shop!

those early images have so much awesomeness in them! Not only is the plaid fantastic, but I like how it’s paired with Striped flapper stockings, a cameo bedecking a fur chapeau. SIGH!

A plaid trench coat?! When are you going to give us a peek at that one, Anja? ;)

I adore all this plaid inspiration you posted! I have been on the lookout for either a cute plaid dress or fabric, and haven’t come up with either yet. Still holding on to hope that I will before the spring comes… :)

Plaid is great! I’ve been on a plaid kick last year, but haven’t really thought about exploring them in neutral palettes. I adore Fudge… I love how they use the same models and they don’t plaster them with make-up either.

Have I told you lately how much I love your blog? No? I should have, because I just adore, and cherish and hold dear to my heart this little corner of the internets. Sigh.
