Gold scallop silk blouse: thrifted
Long black cardigan: Salvation Army
Fox Hunt skirt: Value Village, I think?
Tights: Hue
Big leather satchel: Goodwill bins, $3
Boots: Modcloth
Brr! The arrival of December has perfectly coincided with the arrival of the cold cold air. I took a very long bus ride up to the St. Johns area of Portland yesterday afternoon, which could have been nice since the sky was so clear (I saw Mt. Hood AND Mt. Saint Helens!), but crazy people started piling on and it was a long, long ride. I’ve been putting off this trip for literally months, because it takes about 3 hrs to get there and back. The reason for my trip was to take four rolls of film to Blue Moon Camera, which is the best photo place I have ever patronized. I love them! They actually picked one of my photos to be in their customer art show that is happening this weekend, funny how this is the year of art shows for me. This is the photo, one of my super weird lucky random double exposures that was half shot by dalas in Norway, half shot accidentally by me a couple years later, then even more accidentally exposed a bit when I ripped the film from the canister. Oops, but not, because it looks pretty cool!

So, I actually scribbled a little sketch of this outfit a few weeks back in my notebook, so that I didn’t forget to wear it. Is that weird? I like using my notebooks so I’ll put anything in there. I love this scallop blouse even though it’s a bit too big for me, maybe I could try resizing it! It usually looks a bit better when it’s not being blown around by the wind- you should see all of the outtakes from these photos of my blouse and skirt and hair making silly wind shapes. The skirt was the first (I think?) item in my mini collection of fox hunt themed clothing. I originally blogged about it here, and since then have acquired a blazer with fox hunt lining and another skirt with a cool fox hunt print! Oh, and a ridiculous petit point vest with a fox… but I’ll tell you more about that lil’ treasure later.

And oh, these boots. I love them! So glad I held onto my Modcloth store credit for months and months, I must have known in my heart (or my feet) that these boots would be coming along. They are quite good. Yesterday also brought the discovery of another important fact: my leather satchel is big enough to carry the tripod!! Convenient. It can also carry all my regular stuff, plus a trashy book for the bus (True Blood, y’all – the books are awful but also hilarious), and my hat and gloves for when it got cold, because believe me, as soon as that sun set it was so chilly!

So, since St. Johns is so far from where I live, I haven’t spent a great deal of time up there. I bet you can guess why it’s named Cathedral Park, right? In case I didn’t capture the shape well enough in the photos, it’s because the underside of the St. Johns bridge has shapes very similar to that of a cathedral. There is a cool row of them, so when you look through the first one, you can see all through the others, very cool! The construction of the bridge started just before the big stock market crash in 1929, and provided a lot of people with work during the depression. A corny fact: they waited until St. Patrick’s Day in 1931 to announce that the color of the bridge would be green!

After the sun set it got very cold, so I upgraded my outfit to include my crochet/leather gloves and a fuzzy, floppy hat. It was really windy, which made it even colder, so I high-tailed it back to the bus stop (stopped for a quick photo of some lil’ fungi) and immersed myself into the made-for-dummies vampire novel world. I think I read half the book on the bus, they are so fast to read because they’re written kind of like a script. The best part of reading a True Blood novel is getting to the end and seeing a photo of the author. Hoo boy. She’s a real gem.

you always looks effortlessly great, anja!
i’ve had this weird fascination with mt. saint helens since i was a kid and saw a movie on tv about its eruption. i even made a mini book about it with drawings and everything for my 3rd grade science class (as extra credit, mind you – nerd out!).
