All Kinds
November 23rd, 2009
I have a question for everybody! I’m going to be updating the shop pretty frequently, like last week, and I’m wondering what format of posts you would prefer. Here’s what I could do:
1. One big post at the start of the week showing everything that’s coming up. This would be good because it cuts down on having to do a new shop update post every day, but it won’t have the links to each item like I’ve been posting since the items won’t be up yet. I could, however, edit the one post and add links as items are added, then link back to it on regular posts to let you know that there’s new stuff available.
2. Continue posting daily shop update posts, with links to the items.
Ha, I know it seems like option one is WAY more complicated, but it might be better… doing a whole post about shop updates every day is sort of making me less likely to work on other posts. What do you think I should do?
Guess what? This is also a real post. I wanted to share some of the things that have been finding their way to my desktop lately, mostly things that are inspiring me or are reflecting the current atmosphere. We had our first real foray into the world of dismal grays, the sun didn’t come out for a couple days and I missed it! I don’t mind if it rains all day if there are a couple of moments of sunshine, but that neverending overcast sky is such a bummer. Luckily, it’s still possible to find beauty in autumn neutrals and grays, which is why I think I was so attracted to these ads from the 1920’s that I found on pollypink’s flickr. They’re not very colorful, but the way the colors are combined really is lovely. This trend is going to continue into the next part of my post too, I’m realizing! I just love gray, neutrals with a subtle bit of color added in. This is something I’ve liked for a long time, I remember jotting down a fantasy idea back when we first moved to Portland of printing fabric in light gray with lavender print over top of it (I wanted to use weird Masonic symbols). Gray and pastel is so perfect.

Next, more neutrals! I love every single thing about these outfits, the silhouettes and creative touches are great. I swear, La Meow is a genius, I can’t believe this outfit! Those sock garters seem like they were made with her in mind. The multi-layer collar totally blows me away, too. The colors and shape of it are perfect, almost like a mini capelet. I also adore Starr Crow’s Vivetta-inspired outfit, she looks so tough and cool and the hat is amazing! The other two ladies are from some street style blog, and there’s not much I need to say because we all know those Scandinavians are experts at looking great.

Finally, some shoes that I would give my right foot to have, except that then I wouldn’t have anywhere to put the shoe! They’re all from Anthropologie, where a foot is the least you’ll have to give them in order to own something, but that doesn’t make them any less beautiful. The two colorful pairs are by Chie Mihara, and the way the colors and stitching are designed make them seem like something I dreamed up. Sometimes I actually do that- dream up shoes as I’m drifting off to sleep. Like any before-sleep thought, I don’t remember them later, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they looked a bit like these guys. I’m not sure what brand the wedges are, but the fact that they’re about half the price of the Chie shoes makes them really appealing… I just worry about getting such a light colored suede dirty. Can you clean those things?

Well, my dinner is almost ready (I made Southern collard greens, cornbread and baked beans!) and I feel like my thoughts aren’t really forming to their full potential right now, so this is where I’ll stop. After all, how many times can I really say, “I like it because it’s awesome and that’s why I like it”? I know the answer – a lot of times.

1920s illustrations are my favorite! Thanks for featuring my outfit.
I like the everyday posting with links

Those garters are so brilliant, I want them for my knee socks! Really needing a variation on the socks and sandals before it gets too cold.
I personally like your blog-feed format, shop updates and all because then I’m obliged to read each and every post, and I’m always so, so glad I did.

I like the way you do your blog/shop updates now.
About the suede; I don’t think it would be too hard to keep clean providing you gave it a really good coating with leather protector spray. Multiple light coatings with lots of time to dry between is best.

I much prefer you posting as and when you’ve updated your shop!

everything in this post rules! the illustrations, the coats, the awesome shoes…i’ll take one of each. oh, i wish
i think daily updates would be better. what if someone misses that one big weekly post? i think you’d make more sales with frequent updates

I love those illustrations, and I love grey days so much!!

i like the posts one by one, because the times you’ve posted a bunch at once without all being updated, i wasn’t sure if something i was interested had sold already or just wasn’t updated. sorry, i know uploading internet stuff is really tedious and boring!!!
its so funny that shoe makers make so many suede shoes, because they can be a fuss. for instance, having suede boots is so contrary!! yes, you can use protectant spray, but that still doesn’t make them totally safe from water, dirt, and matting. suede shoes are really for those who have the means to be impractical, in my opinion.

oh, and would you consider perhaps a sale sometime soon for us po’ folk? i love the things you choose and have been happy with my past purchases, but i understand your need to raise prices a bit…it just doesn’t coincide well with my own lack of finance right now! i’d definitely be willing to jump on a few things if there was a sale, though!

I think one post is just fine! Thanks for sharing all the neutrally-inspired stuff – I LOVE it!
I want those bright shoes from Anthro SO bad. Why do they have to be so much?
Don’t worry about getting them dirty as long as you suede protect them before wearing them. which i never do. and it’s why all of my suede shoes are ruined.

I think one big post is a better idea, it saves time for you and seems more logical. Even if there won’t be links to the items I follow your shop via rss feeds so it’s okay. (:

Go with option #2. I love it!
12. Eyeliah | November 24th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
All your new shop updates come up in my google reader anyway so it doesn’t matter to me.
I like #2 if I had to choose though, with a preview we may not always remember to check back later.
And I think one link to your shop is enough, don’t really need the individual links – I know thats a lot of work!

It seems like having separate shop posts once you get new stuff up would work best!
And those street style shots (and La Meow and Starr Crow!) are just wonderful . . I’ve been feeling the neutrals too lately . just makes sense in cold weather.

I like you because you’re awesome and that’s why I like you!
Ha!
And I say do either a mega-post or mini-posts…whichever is better for you.
And those outfits are so good! I love sock-garters…but when I wear them I fear it makes me look like The Trunchbull from Matilda.

oh chie mihara. sigh. why must you taunt us with your perfectly constructed dream shoes?

wow, you just made my day. i’ve always admired you so much and to think that you were inspired by one of my looks is flattering to say the least. also, i think you have the best vintage shop around. really… you must have an amazing eye to find the thing that you do!
