A photo from Josh’s birthday camping trip, which ended up being a truly traumatic night. We spent the day at the Opal Creek pools and in the evening set up camp nearby, only to witness a group of complete idiots down the hill build a fire so large that they caught one of the standing trees on fire. It was one of the worst feelings I have ever had, watching one of my favorite forests on the verge of total destruction. Completely, helplessly sick with fear. By some extreme nature miracle, the fire didn’t spread after burning up the moss on the branches. I don’t even want to talk about how horrible these people acted afterwards and for the rest of the night, but it involved their complete indifference to what they had nearly caused, their alcohol-fueled dissatisfaction over our mere existence, and my deeply protective feelings toward the forest. It was a very complicated night. I think Josh and Keegan illustrate this well in their portrait as woodland protectors, taken the following morning.
