Cozy Future

August 25th, 2009

I’ve officially been bitten by the rusty little bug of fall. I’m searching the internet for my perfect boots (cool black wedge ankle-ish boots… so far, nothing speaks to me), wanting cozy cardigans and ready for the fall food to start showing up in my weekly farm share basket. I love summer but I love fall too, it’s winter that I’d like to avoid. This year I absolutely have to get real and get a good, warm, water-resistant jacket. dalas got one last year and I was so jealous of how warm he was all the time. As much as I love my couch coat, it does get a little soggy after a while.

Anyway, thanks to all the fall collections that are popping up I’m finding myself less interested in cool old dresses and more into basic, clean but interesting separates- I love gray, navy, black and white stripes… the fall collection from the Swedish store Monki (which I heard about from Rhiannon, while their summer collection was still up!) is on their website now, lots of dark colors and cozy knits. Some of it is not what I’m into (boxy jackets, printed t-shirts), but I’ve selected some of my favorites to share!

I’m determined to figure out how to wear pants this fall. Non-denim, actual pants. I just saw Inglourious Basterds and through all the blood and Nazis, I managed to fixate on this one outfit that Shoshana, the main female character, wore in one part of the movie. Big wide-leg black 40′s pants (they might have had suspenders) that ended just at her ankle, little oxfords (I think), a golden blouse with great stitching on the collar, a comfy sweater. I kept imagining a pair of those pants made from a really high quality fabric, they would be so nice to wear! Edited to add: Rachel is my hero!! Look what she found for me:

Ok, so I would prefer this outfit as just pants or pants with suspenders, but I seriously stared at the stitching on that blouse every time it showed up on screen. Loved it.

Pants aside, I just love the outfits that these two Hel Looks girls are wearing. I’m excited to start hunting for fall clothes now!

YES! I lost my mind a little bit about her pants. Ohhh, and the little hats, being French and her up-dos. It feels strange to be inspired by it, but you know. Oh yes, it’s something I’ll be wanting so badly!

I was totally staring at the stitching on her collar throughout the film, too! I was searching for pictures of her and couldn’t find any; was going to do a blog entry about both women myself but could only find pictures of Bridget.

monki really has some little treasures.. they are going to open a store in hamburg soon, which is close to where i live, so if there is anything you really really really want to have i could try and get it for you. i don’t know what shipping from germany to the us costs though..

I would definitely love a nice rain slicker myself. So much of what is out there, though, in water resistance is so sporty. You can’t wear a Northface jacket over a dress. It is atrocious.

I am with you! I love all the basics and they really come into play in the fall, sure the summer is fun with it’s frivolity, but when the weather cools, its time to get serious! ;)

I must admit I’m quite impatient to watch the movie mainly because of clothes (I went to an exhibition a few days ago about women accessories during the occupation years, and I must admit I was amazed by the fact they kept being chic whereas fabric or leather were so hard to find…)!
A.P.C. also has this palette of rusty red, navy blue, plus mustard yellow. The whole of it creates a nice fall feeling (although I rather dislike the unamiable-looking model)!

Wow, these pieces are making me super psyched for fall! I want to wear trouser pants too but I’m not sure I could get over the (probably mostly irrational) fear of them making me look like a huge wall of fabric. I guess I should probably actually try some on before making that judgement though!

I have to admit, I haven’t been paying attention to any of the fall collections. Not from lack of wanting to, but I think more as a way to keep myself from getting too depressed that I won’t be in the mid-Atlantic region for fall this year. :p It was in the 80s when I got down here the first week in December last year, so I’m trying not to torture myself too much! haha!

However, that being said, I love these pieces! Especially the stripy top; I’m dying to find a shirt just like that, now that I’ve got a couple wider, black and white striped tops in my closet. And those slacks–I have a pair almost exactly like those! I bought them at Anthropologie years ago. The legs are wide though; I wonder if I could taper them a bit? I already wear them rolled up… Hmm…

We’re heading to the theater to see Inglorious Basterds this weekend too! I’m more interested in the costumes from the sneaky peeks I’ve seen on the web, than the Quentin Tarantino-style blood and guts, so I’ll be keeping an eye open for that outfit (and the eye-catching stitching! ;) . lol.

Shoshana was so fabulous, I really loved her style and the first outfit when she was taking down the letters on her cinema sign. Of course berets so French. I left the movie thinking mostly about her too. :-)

A friend of mine visited Copenhagen and got me that black Monki dress as a present! I haven’t received it yet, but I hope it will fit. I wish Monki would have stores in Germany. ^^

I loved that couch coat post, hilarious! That Inglorious Bastards outfit is definitely awesome, I was the same way about staring at the shirt!!

Oh wow, awesome pieces! I am also on the lookout for fall clothing already. I still love my dresses but I definitely want to wear more pants this coming fall, too. Oh, I think I still need to watch Inglorious Basterds even though the trailer did creep me out a little, haha

Haha, another one obsessed with Shoshanna’s collar stitching here! And her pants. Love her pants. I also liked Bridget von Hammersmakt’s suit (nice detailing there too), not so much the evening wear. And Francesca’s leopard hat!
