WARBY PARKER CLASS TRIP IN PORTLAND

Warby Parker Class Trip has arrived in Portland! The eyewear company is traveling the country in a remodeled school bus, fully outfitted with a mini glasses shop that’s open to the public. They’ll be here until June 9th, and you can find the bus at NW 10th & Glisan. Megan and I stopped in to their party after the final Mercury fashion show, it was crazy packed and admittedly we didn’t stay long since we had dinner date plans and wanted to chill out a little more. We went to one of our favorite restaurants and the site of our first lady date, Navarre. A couple days later on a quiet rainy morning, I went with Hailey to check out all the glasses. She let me snap some photos of her while she tried some glasses, lookin’ so cute in blue frames!

I wear contacts usually and have a hard time finding glasses frames that suit me, and it’s cool that they brought along so many options. I have a pair from the 50′s that I really love, but they need new lenses so I rarely wear them. I get kind of overwhelmed by the task of finding frames, because they have to be so perfect if you’re going to wear them right on your face all the time, so I stuck to browsing sunglasses and am super into the Boyd sunglasses (in marbled charcoal, duh, of course I would like that). MARBLE ADDICT.

It’s worth a visit if you’re looking for new glasses! You can also shop online here.

AY MARIEKE JEWELRY

I had so much fun working on this shoot for my friend’s jewelry line, Ay Marieke. Her pieces have a lovely combination of feminine and mystic elements, drawing from classic symbolism in a subtle way. I can’t wait to wear one of her Ojo rings (ojo = eye!), I’ve been wanting an eye ring for a long time but was waiting for the right one. Our shoot day was exactly what I hoped it would be- chill ladies working together on a fun project, mimosas and jewels, silks and a bit of sunshine in the studio. Make sure to visit the Ay Marieke shop to see even more pieces, and you can also keep up with her updates on her Facebook page.

STONE & HONEY / MEDIUS COLLECTION

A while back I had the pleasure of shooting Stone & Honey‘s new spring jewelry collection, Medius. We worked together on images for the fall collection as well, and the shoots are always fun and chill. Teresa’s work is beautiful, and it’s always awesome to get a couple sneak peeks of her works-in-progress while we’re planning the photoshoot. I love the addition of fringe to this collection, and the bronze rings are mega cool! They’re simple but strong at the same time (my fave is this one). Plus, Teresa brings the tastiest chocolate chip cookies from Tula Bakery, I think we can say that it’s a tradition (even if it’s just twice)? They’re tradition-worthy. Also, this shoot taught me that hair tied in a knot is basically one of the coolest things ever.

Check out more images below, and you can find all the pieces from the Medius collection right here! PS – I didn’t shoot the product images but wanted to include them too!

A FOREST WALK

Last summer my pal Jordan gave me an old Minolta XE-7 camera body, and I finally got around to shooting with it. I really wanted an easy, trusty SLR with some program modes so that I can shoot film without always having to think about metering, and this one is great! I’ve had bad luck with a lot of the popular film cameras (Canon AE-1, Olympus Stylus Epic) and every time I buy one it malfunctions or has weird problems. Maybe this one is lucky because it was a gift! I brought it on a recent Forest Park walk/hike and ended up having to hold the camera shut the whole time because the back swings open, which resulted in some light leaks and probably a few lost frames. No worries though, because the magic of tape totally solves this problem. I’m high-tech.

IN THE MOOD

I am way behind in posting these images, but better late than never! I had the pleasure of shooting the very first lookbookfor Fortyeight, the new flash sale shoe site by Solestruck. Everyone on this shoot was awesome, we did it all out at the Solestruck warehouse (shoe heaven?) and it was my first time ever shooting with a male model. The first shoe sale is over (they only last 48 hours!) but you can sign up to be notified when the next one is happening. Shoe ladies, this one’s for you. You can see the official lookbook here and they also did a super sweet blog post with some of my other photos here (Portland friends, see if you make an appearance!).

PORTLAND FASHION INTERNSHIP

I never thought this day would come, but after many years of working completely alone, I need some help. 2013 has been awesomely busy with creative work projects, and I’m at a point where I want to keep up the pace and it feels like a perfect time to get someone else involved. If you’ve read this blog before, you know that I have a bunch of different projects going on. I have my vintage shop on etsy plus the new addition of the Refinery29 boutique (I’m starting work on a second collection for them!), my photography work and my line of leather goods. Of course I do wedding photography as well, but that’s not involved here.

I’m looking for someone who loves fashion (obviously) and wants to learn about everything that happens behind-the-scenes, including but not limited to: fashion and product photography, styling and assisting on photoshoots, editorial copywriting, sourcing vintage (aka thrifting with me, ha ha), managing an online boutique, developing and producing a small fashion line, etc. Obviously some things are more fun than others, but I feel excited about the projects I have right now and I honestly wouldn’t be putting out this call if the work was all going to be super lame, haha. I think it goes without saying that I am looking for someone who is bright and motivated, with a great eye for style/design, and most importantly, someone who I can count on!

Right now this is technically unpaid, but if all goes well I think this could turn into something more. I can go into more detail re: compensation (you know you’ll be getting the clothing hookups at the very least!) if you get in touch personally. Aside from the work with me, I hope I can help connect people within the Portland fashion community (and beyond!). I’ve been involved with a lot of local shops and designers and there are so many great people here doing a a huge variety or amazing work, and this community is growing quickly and in really awesome ways.

If you are interested in working with me, please email me and tell me about yourself! If you have a blog/tumblr/flickr/anything, send me links, and don’t overthink it. Let me know about your experience with fashion and computer stuff (no specific requirements, just whatever feels relevant). I’d love to this to start ASAP, so it’s best if you currently live in Portland (or live super close and can drive here easily). Tentatively, 10-15 hours a week with a flexible schedule. If you need this for school credit, that is cool too (just let me know what you need!). Also please feel free to ask any questions- I am 100% for openness and clarity in work, life, etc, so don’t be shy and let’s talk!

REIF X PATTERN PEOPLE

Check out this awesome new collaboration by REIF and Pattern People! These new handmade turbans and headbands (super popular in Portland!) feature a special edition print created just for this line, and they are having a launch party tomorrow night at Yo Vintage! If you need a break from the gray days, come out and have a drink and get some COLOR injected into your wardrobe. Spring is coming, I can feel it. Saw my first cherry blossoms the other day, so it’s TRUE. I shot these photos for the lookbook during my week of a billion shoots, thanks to these ladies for the awesome afternoon.

IN THE STUDIO

The past few weeks have been super busy. I think I’ve been working harder than ever in my life, I’m a slacker at heart but I’m really going for it these days! One week, I worked at six different shoots, it was intense but fun and I’m glad to be behind the camera. These photos are from a couple different shoots in the studio recently, just some bits and pieces shot between looks. I’ve been working on a big project connected to the vintage shop that will be going live at the end of the week, including a collection of some of my best-ever finds. I’ve finally caught up on ANN-YA leather orders, after giving the tote bags a bit of a redesign- they have linings now! I have new designs and awesome new leathers that I want to release but it has been hard to find time. I shot engagement photos (Wild Hearts has a new site!) for a fun couple on Mt. Tabor and am really excited about the upcoming weddings later this year. I’m still getting used to the fact that I have to plan my calendar months in advance now! Best of all, on the relaxing flip-side, I was lucky enough to spend a week in Maui. It was my first time in Hawaii and it was pretty amazing (obviously), I’ll definitely post more about the trip soon.

SUMMERLAND / HEY SWEET STUFF

Even though Valentine’s Day has come and gone, pastel pix like these are always relevant in Summerland! Megan has realized her long-time dream of opening up a brick & mortar home for Summerland and you can visit her and check out all of her awesome wares at 811 E. Burnside #222. She’s ’round the back and up the stairs, so don’t be shy about exploring the building. There are other cool shops in the back too that you might have missed. Right now Megan is in NY seeking out awesome new stuff for the store, so the shop is closed for the week but will be open again on Feb 26th! My timing is super awesome, right? Haha. Enjoy the pastel wonderland!
